Our Partner Adapro is Finland’s first Certified Carbon Neutral Company

Our partner Adapro who builds competences and processes for project business and strategy implementations, has received the Climate Neutral Company Certification as the first Finnish company to do so.

Certification was conducted by a swiss organisation South Pole Carbon Asset Management Ltd. (South Pole) which is known for their liaison with such companies as Tetra Pak, SAP, PwC, SEB and Coop. Adapro’s operations has been certifiably carbon neutral since the beginning of 2020.

Adapro’s Carbon Footprint Comes from Travelling

”We started the certification process with South Pole in 2019 when there was no idea about the upcoming corona epidemic. However, we had offer remote coaching already for years and now we saw not only a possibility to offer our clients even more flexible services but to also start to remove our own operations from producing carbon emission. We had a     preconception that the biggest culprit was not the most obvious – sticky notes, pens and flip chart papers – even though participants sometimes do bring our attention to those.”, tells Adapro’s CEO Teppo Nurminen.

It turned out that all the papers, meals and IT connections during coaching sessions and workshops were only responsible for five (5) percent of all emissions from company’s operations. Travelling to work place and workshops produced half of all carbon emission and office premises one third.

Corona Offers A Chance for Change

”Naturally during the corona pandemic we have done everything in virtual and online – starting from ABC Project Management Model workshops – so as for now our carbon footprint is nearly 70 % smaller compared to year 2019. Momentarely we are clearly in negative. But we are not planning to return to 2019 level even though that is our baseline. The whole idea is to systematically and constantly downsize and compensating remaining footprint is just the last step in this. From now on we are offering even more possibilities to remote and online implementations and will otherwise work more remotely.”, Nurminen continues.

Compensation Grows World’s Lung and Protects Diversity in Nature

Adapro’s remaining footprint will be compensated by investing in Isangi Forest Conservation in Democratic Republic of Congo by supporting the development of new methods for local farming and land use. “We chose Isangi because rainforests are known for being good carbon sinks and on the other hand there conservation is done in a sustainable way even from local point of view. Operations in Isangi are VCS CCBS Certified which means that in addition to carbon sequestration criterion the effect on local communities and biodiversity are also considered.

Adapro is a long time partner of Project Management Association Finland. The Association congratulates Adapro — a great accomplishment and great pioneering!
